Our Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart in Newark welcomed with great reverence the relics of St. Margaret Mary Alacoque, whose devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus has spread throughout the universal Church for more than 350 years. This 3-day veneration of her relics by the faithful culminated in a Solemn Sunday Mass at Noon, celebrated by Bishop Michael Saporito. I was honored to concelebrate with him and with Fr. Matthew Gonzalez, Cathedral Rector. My gratitude to the Knights of Columbus Fourth Degree Color Corps for their presence and participation, and to Mr. John Miller for providing such beautiful and inspiring sacred music. St. Margaret Mary Alacoque reminds us of the heart of our Christian vocation: to surrender ourselves completely to the love of Christ. As she beautifully expressed it: “I need nothing but God, and to lose myself in the heart of God.”
